Landmark decision: Ukraine’s president just signed a law to legalise crypto

In February 2022, the Verkhovna Rada supported the amendments of the President of Ukraine on the law “On Virtual Assets”, and yesterday, 16th March 2022, the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine announced that the law was signed by Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The law “On Virtual Assets” is intended to create conditions for the legal use of cryptocurrencies in Ukraine.

Ukraine has legalised the crypto sector – Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law. From now on foreign and Ukrainian cryptocurrency exchanges will operate legally and banks will open accounts for crypto companies. It is an important step towards the development of the VA market in Ukraine,” the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine said.

The following institutions will serve as regulators:

  • the National Bank of Ukraine
  • the National Commission on Securities and the stock market
